When IBS has made your world smaller than it should be.

You’re not asking for much. To eat like a normal person. To choose from the menu because something sounds good, not because it feels safest.

Helen Brooks

Every meal comes with a mental calculation: what you ate, where you are, how long you’ll be out, and what might happen if your gut reacts.

The things you should be looking forward to have started coming with a logistics plan.

A wedding. A holiday. A birthday trip. A day in London to see a show.

Before you can feel excited, your brain is already working through the route, the toilets, the timings, the exits, the “what if I can’t leave?” and the quiet fear your body might let you down when you need it not to.

And then there are the ordinary things.

Taking your kids to the park. Sitting through a meeting. Going to the beach. Saying yes to dinner at someone else’s house without feeling like a burden.

The moments that should be simple start feeling complicated.

Because when your body has felt unpredictable for long enough, your whole life starts organising itself around staying safe.

And of course you’ve tried to change that.

I am able to live a normal life, something I didn't think I would ever be able to do again.
Dr S. Hasan

You’ve probably spent years trying to work out what your gut can tolerate.

The “safe” foods. The trigger foods. The routines, supplements, medications, probiotics, meal timing, food rules, and careful little systems that are meant to keep symptoms manageable.

And some of them may even have helped for a while.

But the difficult part is this:

IBS doesn’t always follow rules.

A food that felt fine last month suddenly isn’t. A good week gets followed by a flare-up that makes no sense. Something as simple as travel, stress, a restaurant meal, or a change in routine can throw everything off again.

Which is why so many people with IBS end up exhausted from trying to control it perfectly.

Not because they’re doing anything wrong.

But because they haven’t been shown the full picture — IBS isn’t only about food.

It’s officially recognised as a disorder of gut-brain interaction.

In plain English, that means your gut, brain, and nervous system can get stuck in a loop of hypersensitivity, that triggers and amplifies symptoms.

Which means the problem isn’t that you haven’t found the perfect food list yet.

Food can trigger symptoms, but so can anticipation, pressure, uncertainty, travel, or disrupted routines too.

So even when you’re doing everything “right,” your gut can still react as though something is wrong.

That’s why the next step isn’t more control.

It’s helping your body feel safe enough to stop sounding the alarm.

The Gut-Brain Connection Method®

A structured 12-week process designed to help restore gut-brain communication and calm the hypersensitivity that keeps IBS symptoms switched on.

restore

Gut-brain connection

Evidence-based gut-directed hypnotherapy to help calm the hypersensitivity and stress signalling that can keep the gut stuck in reaction mode.

regulate

Your nervous system

So your body is no longer constantly operating as though normal life is a threat it needs to prepare for.

rebuild

Trust in your body

So meals, travel, social plans, meetings, and ordinary days stop feeling like things that need careful planning.

By the end of the programme, the goal is that:

  • 01

Food no longer feels like something you have to constantly calculate around.

  • 02

You can go out for meals, travel, attend events, and make plans without your brain immediately scanning for exits, toilets, or worst-case scenarios.

  • 03

Your gut feels calmer, less reactive, and more predictable — instead of something that seems to change the rules every week.

  • 04

You understand how to work with your nervous system and gut-brain connection, rather than feeling trapped in an endless cycle of symptom management.

  • 05

You have a growing sense of trust in your body, so your world no longer has to stay small in order to feel safe.

I now feel free to travel without my IBS stopping me and am excited for my future. Thank you Helen, you've really changed my life.

When you’ve lived with IBS for long enough, control can start to feel like safety.

The safe foods. The routines. The toilet planning. The quiet calculation before every meal, outing, journey, or invitation.

And of course you’ve done it.

When your body has felt unpredictable, trying to control every variable makes sense.

But control is also how your world gets smaller.

And after everything you’ve tried, it can feel risky to hope anything else could work.

That’s the part more food rules can’t reach.

Because if your gut-brain system is still reading ordinary life as a threat, you can keep removing triggers and still feel like your body is on alert.

You don’t need to feel certain yet.

You just need a supported next step that doesn’t ask you to keep doing more of the same.

I actually cannot believe the change in me since working with you and your team. My life has changed so much since this time last year. I eat more or less anything. I don't have the pain or bloating and I can't remember the last time I ran to the toilet. Thank you from the bottom of my heart — you've really changed my life.

about Helen

Why I created The Gut-Brain Connection Method®

I’m Helen Brooks, founder of The Tummy Whisperer.

I’m a multi-award-winning Clinical Hypnotherapist with an Honours Degree in Applied Psychology, and I’ve spent more than 20 years working with people who have IBS.

Again and again, I met people who had already tried so much before they found me. Diets. Supplements. Medication. Testing. Tracking. Years of trying to manage symptoms carefully enough to feel safe.

By the time they arrived, they didn’t need another person telling them to cut out more foods or monitor their body more closely. They needed a different way of understanding what was happening.

That work became the foundation for The Gut-Brain Connection Method® — a structured way to work with the gut-brain patterns that keep IBS feeling unpredictable.

My role is to guide you through it carefully, with enough structure, support, and reassurance that you’re not left trying to figure it out on your own.

What becomes possible when IBS stops running the show.

Frequently asked

You came here because IBS has been deciding too much.

What you eat. Where you go. How long you stay. What feels possible.

The Gut-Brain Connection Method® is here to help change that.

Not overnight. Not by forcing your body into another set of rules. But through a structured, supported process that works with the gut-brain connection at the centre of IBS.

12 weeks from now, the goal isn't just fewer symptoms. It's a life that no longer revolves around them.
